The Government of the Republic of Moldova, with the support of the US Agency for International Development (USAID) and World Bank, launches discussions regarding the Road Map for Business Environment Development in Moldova
The Ministry of Economy and Trade, in partnership with the Business Regulatory and Tax Administration Reform Project (USAID|BIZTAR) and the World Bank, held a roundtable today to present to the business community a “road map” by which the Government of Moldova intends to improve the business environment in Moldova.
The road map calls for actions that will enhance the business environment in Moldova by streamlining business registration procedures, modernizing the regulatory framework in the construction sector, and simplifying tax reporting. Success in each of these areas would improve the ranking of the Republic of Moldova in the Doing Business index, which rates the ease of doing business in the country. The index is published annually by the World Bank.
The event is significant because it gathers members of the Government and representatives of private sector to discuss the real conditions of doing business in Moldova. Higher ratings on the Doing Business index are associated with reduced corruption, improved opportunities for women and minorities, and more jobs within small and medium-sized businesses.
At the event, Mr. Iurie Muntean, Vice-minister of Economy and Trade declared, “In order to develop viable solutions to improve the doing business indicators, a working group has been established to examine the deficiencies of the current legal framework that regulates business. The resulting plan includes concrete measures that will develop the business environment, benefitting the economy and attracting foreign investment.”
Through the USAID|BIZTAR Project, the US Agency for International Development (USAID) assists a number of governmental agencies in the Republic of Moldova to simplify and improve their services to the public.
The World Bank assists the Republic of Moldova to improve the business environment through the regulation reform in addition to standardizing weights and measures, thus harmonizing Moldovan exports with European measurement standards, and supports the implementation of quality management standards for local companies.
